Wal-Mart has been worried about its competitiveness against Apple in music retailing. Now, its worry has become a fact. This also makes people engaged in the traditional music industry feel that their good times are over. According to the latest survey results released by NPD, a market research company at the beginning of April, Apple's iTunes Music Store accounted for 19% of the US music retail market, becoming the largest music retailer in the United States. Wal-Mart ranked second with the combined sales of its online music store and offline physical stores accounting for 15% of the market share. Previously, this retailer, whose global sales were twice as much as Carrefour S.A., the world's second-largest listed retailer, was an unshakable leader in the music retailing market.
