Baidu CEO Robin Li spoke at Stanford University in the United States on Wednesday about his company's experience in surviving the dot-com bust and growing into China's version of Google. The key to Baidu's success during the dot-com bust of late 2000 and 2001, he says, was careful use of initial venture capital and a determination to refocus Baidu's business model from providing back-office search for portals to offering front-end search services.
