Next generation P2P: Bandwidth will be the means of payment

Researchers from Delft and Vrije universities have proposed a new P2P model that uses Internet bandwidth as a means of payment for shared resources. The program is called Tribler, and it was first created by the Dutch. "Successful P2P systems need to emphasize fairness, so it is a calculable, economic system," the researchers were inspired by this.

Johan Pouwelse, a professor at the University of Delft and the director of Tribler, said: "Our platform offers fast downloads while ensuring enough uploads, in a market dominated by resources and bandwidth." It's a simple global marketplace, based on the "earn money and then consume" model, where the more you upload, the more you download, and the faster you download. This is where the researchers see Tribler as superior to traditional P2P programs like BitTorrent.

As a mechanism, Tribler allows users to use the accumulated "upload revenue" to speed up the download time when downloading and watching videos to achieve a better video playback experience. Users can also communicate with each other to create a "trust network," which the researchers hope will prevent spoofing and malicious attacks. In short, in Tribler's world, the reputation of the user is extremely important.
