Windows Vista will add a feature called Sidebar. The Sidebar is a small panel located next to the display, which can be used to show pictures, slideshows, RSS feeds, and other small software known as gadgets.
Windows "Chief" Allchin said that DVD movies popularized wide-screen monitors, but the "extra" pixels have many other uses.
Allchin said in an interview last week that this is also where the importance of Sidebar lies - users can place it rotated alongside the monitor, and wide-screen monitors support this functionality.
