Complete guide to listening:

To improve listening, first start by listening to teaching listening tapes, such as textbook tapes, oral English teaching tapes, or choose interesting materials suitable for or slightly above your level. Whether intensive listening or extensive listening, it's best not to look at the text material at the beginning. For intensive listening, listen to the entire tape first, then repeatedly listen to the parts you don't understand. If some parts are really hard to understand, try to listen clearly to every syllable, then check the book. Look up words that affect understanding in the dictionary. Then close the book and listen from the beginning to the end until you can understand the whole content. Through such listening practice, you can improve your ability to distinguish sounds and understand listening. If you read the written material before listening, often your ears will be distinguishing sounds, while your brain is thinking and memorizing. If you look at the written material while listening, it's often silent reading, which doesn't help improve listening. When encountering new materials, you won't be able to understand again.

Intensive listening is best done with teaching recordings and short stories with plots or science popularization short stories; Extensive listening can select oral English textbooks or some interesting little stories, so that you can contact more recorded materials, familiarize yourself with English pronunciation, expand knowledge, and improve listening. Extensive listening can be done in one pass, just understand the general meaning. If you don't understand in one pass, you can listen again. If still don't understand, flip the book and continue listening. When listening to new materials for the first time, concentrate fully and let your mind follow every syllable. Pause at the end of each sentence and repeat it in your mind. Don't stop and think when encountering new words, because some new words can be understood in the entire content. Some new words do not affect understanding, you can ignore them, stopping to think will instead affect listening to the next content. Listen to the frequency of the recording material in your mind and repeat it in English, and the speed should be trained to keep up with the recording speed, cannot translate while listening. Generally, as long as the difficulty is appropriate and you can hear most of the words, you can understand the main idea.

The above is just my own experience in improving listening. Everyone has their own experience in improving listening, although A's experience may not apply to B, B's experience may not apply to A, but they can inspire each other, take the strengths and make up for the weaknesses, use different methods to achieve the same goal.
