Aubrey Beardsley was a famous painter from the Art Nouveau period. He was born on August 21, 1872, in Brighton, England, and had a sister named Mabel Beardsley (1871-1916), who was one year older than him. Their mother, Ellen, was highly educated and could play the piano; she placed great emphasis on her children's education. Influenced by their mother, both siblings excelled in literature, music, and art. Drawing seemed to be an innate talent for Aubrey Beardsley. Unfortunately, genius is often cut short by fate—when Beardsley was seven years old, he was diagnosed with tuberculosis, which eventually led to his early death. Beardsley passed away in 1898 at the young age of 26.
