The 2007 Pulitzer Prize winner for Feature Photography, "Mother's Journey," was written by René, of the Sacramento Bee in California. e C. Byer. She recorded Cyndie, a single mother, accompanying her son Derek through his battle with the disease until the end of his life. Cyndie also completes her journey as Derek's mother with love, perseverance, and grief.
