(The picture is a still from Memories of Killing, which was voted the most perfect movie in Hollywood)
On the website Korea Pop Wars, the journalist Mark Russell posted a list of the top 10 Korean movies of the past decade. Mark has a long background in covering Korean films, and the list is taken seriously indeed. My list of the top 10 Korean films of the past decade may not have the authority of Mark's list, but I hope you will still find them enjoyable.
1. Memories of Murder (2003) - I totally agree with Mark Russell about the best movie of the past decade: Memories of Murder. Not only is it a great Korean movie, but it's also one of the best crime movies I've ever seen.

At the 2nd Korean Film Awards in 2003, Song Kang-ho's "Memories of Murder" became the biggest winner, winning six awards including best Director, best actor, best screenplay, best cinematography, and Best Picture
Winner.
2. Dear Gold (2005) - A beautiful woman, played by Lee Young-ae, is framed for murder, and after leaving prison, she takes revenge on the man who framed her. I think the plot, characters and acting are excellent.
3. Love Comes Home 2003 - This film tells the story of a spoiled city boy who is placed in foster care with his elderly deaf grandmother. The film's rural atmosphere shows the differences between modern and ancient Korea without obscuring its themes of love and understanding. This is a touching film that the audience can hardly hold back their tears.
4. Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter, Spring (2003) - This Buddhist fable told through the changing of the seasons over several years is beautifully shot in the mountainous countryside of Korea, and is complemented by excellent acting and a beautiful story.
5. Old Boy (2004) - Another great revenge movie by director Park Chan-wook. The audience can experience the ultimate violence, panic, and fun.
6. Silmido Island (2003) - This action movie with a completely unbelievable plot easily captivated audiences because it was based on the true story of secret South Korean military commandos who rose up and traveled through the streets of Seoul to assassinate South Korean dictator Park Chung-hee.
7. Chunhyang (2000) - This is an ancient Korean film directed by renowned director Lim Kwon-taek. The film interprets Korean rap songs into screen performances, telling the story of the beautiful and loyal Chunxiang in Korean classical legend.
8. Marathon (2005) - This moving film tells the story of an autistic child who loves to run and the loving mother who continues to trust her son despite his learning difficulties.
9. People Back Then (2005) - This film caused a firestorm of controversy when it premiered due to its political overtones, but after watching it, I wondered what all the fuss was about. For a film dramatizing the final hours of the life of former South Korean dictator Park Chung-hee, I was struck by the dark humor and the excellent storyline that makes the film so entertaining.
10. Taegukgi (2004) - South Korean war films are generally considered failures, and this one deserves a place on this list as the best representative of the genre.
