The UK Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) issued a warning about traditional Chinese medicine on its official website on Monday, saying that these medicines contain huge amounts of harmful toxins including lead, mercury, and arsenic. One of the products was manufactured by Tong Ren Tang in China.

The warned products include Niuhuang Jiedu Pian by Beijing Tong Ren Tang, Baifeng Wan by Bao Ling Tang, and Fabao by Henglong Chang. None of these products have been authorized to enter the UK market, but investigators still found these drugs on the market.

Baifeng Wan was previously recalled in Hong Kong because its lead content was twice the normal amount. The mercury content in Fabao is 11 times the standard. According to the Swedish National Food Administration, they found that Niuhuang Jiedu Pian produced by Beijing Tong Ren Tang contains a large amount of arsenic.
