Chinabyte, July 17th - According to a report by journalist Fang Kun, Chinabyte has learned from a reliable source that ZCOM, the developer of the electronic magazine platform (hereinafter referred to as ZCOM), has secretly acquired FlashGet. As a result, the acquisition battle for FlashGet involving Google, Baidu, Mop, and ZCOM is nearing its end. Chinabyte subsequently sought confirmation of the above rumors from senior management at ZCOM, but the individual indicated it was not yet convenient to disclose any information. Meanwhile, FlashGet founder Hou Yantang could not be reached due to his location in Canada.
Industry sources revealed that previously, there were widespread rumors that Baidu, Google, and Mop had all attempted to acquire FlashGet but were unsuccessful. An insider familiar with FlashGet's creator, Hou Yantang, stated that Hou has always maintained a low profile and does not prioritize commercial interests. The same source also mentioned that "after being acquired by ZCOM, FlashGet will continue to maintain its independent identity as personal software."
Industry insiders noted that in horizontal evaluations conducted by professional media on electronic magazine platforms, download speed has consistently been regarded as one of the most important evaluation indicators. ZCOM's acquisition of FlashGet is expected to enhance its advantages in downloading. Therefore, the rumors circulating within the industry about ZCOM acquiring FlashGet may not be baseless. However, both parties involved have not yet confirmed the matter.
It is understood that ZCOM secured global investment in 2005.
