Google upgraded the satellite imagery services in its Google Earth software and Google Local search on Tuesday. The upgrade mainly includes two additional zoom levels, allowing users to get closer to the objects they are observing.

Chikai Ohazama, a member of the Google Earth team, said: "Now, you can see more details in many places around the world, such as checking out the people standing in front of Buckingham Palace in London, or skipping across the water to take a look at the Statue of Liberty in New York."

The current Google Earth/Local has 20 zoom levels with a maximum precision of 50 feet (15 meters).
