Is the CDMA version of the iPhone still having death grip problems?

Initially after its release, the iPhone 4 experienced the "death grip" issue. When users covered the black part at the bottom left corner of the iPhone 4, the signal strength would significantly drop and might even lose reception. However, as long as that part was not covered or a protective case was used, there wouldn't be any problems. It was thought that the antenna would be redesigned in the CDMA iPhone recently provided by Verizon Wireless to prevent this issue, but unexpectedly, the CDMA iPhone still experienced the "death grip" problem.

According to tests by Consumer Reports magazine, the iPhone 4 still has the "death grip" issue. And using a Bumper solves the problem.

Will Apple take responsibility for Verizon Wireless iPhone users and give out free cases again? Is it a design flaw in the iPhone itself, or has the antenna design in the CDMA iPhone not been changed at all?

Regardless, Apple must identify the root cause of the problem to ensure it doesn’t reoccur in the iPhone 5.
