Scientists at CSR Technology have developed a new flexible computer keyboard, which is as thin as paper with a thickness of only 0.5 millimeters and can be used as part of any touch device. The company claims it is the world's thinnest computer keyboard.
CSR Technology states that it can also serve as an extended touchpad for tablets and smartphones, allowing users to connect a full-size, ultra-thin keyboard to their phones for sending text messages.
This keyboard combines CSR Technology's low-power wireless technology with advanced printing and flexible electronics technology. Paul Williamson, head of CSR's low-power wireless technology department, said: "The device can function as both a touch and gesture control system, performing basic text input tasks that are more complex than those currently available on touch-screen devices. It can also be used with a stylus-type pen for handwriting recognition, drawing, and sketching patterns."
CSR points out that this ultra-thin keyboard could become a frost-proof cover for tablets, expanding the touch area on desktop computers.
