Nexus S is here, and Google officially launches Android 2.3 Gingerbread - Android Device - Hong Kong Silicon Valley

First thing this morning, Google CEO Eric Schmidt humorously tweeted the following message:

Indeed, Google officially announced the Nexus S, and simultaneously released the Android 2.3 Gingerbread SDK development kit.

The Nexus S is clearly aimed at developers because Google knows that if you have to wait for phone manufacturers to update to 2.3, it could be half a year before software can be tested. Moreover, Gingerbread has some new features, such as NFC (Near Field Communication) for mobile payments, which require support from new chips. Therefore, Google chose to collaborate with Samsung to launch the Nexus S in order to further elevate the frontline Android hardware and software standards.
