South Korean media reported that Korea Telecom (KT), the country's second largest telecom operator, is actively in talks with Apple to bring the iPad to the South Korean market. Meanwhile, KT is also building its own Android tablet, the Olleh Pad. Olleh is the reverse of "hello".
The Olleh Pad, which is expected to be released in September, is being manufactured by Enspert, a South Korean device maker. On August 9, KT signed a cooperation agreement with Enspert worth 13.5 billion won. Enspert will produce a tablet for KT called the Smart Pad (which will presumably be renamed the Olleh Pad).
Enspert showed off two Smart Pad models last month: the 8-inch Smart Pad E220 and the 7-inch Smart Pad E201.
The Smart Pad E220 is equipped with an 8-inch 800x480 resolution display (can display 260,000 colors), uses a Samsung 1GHz S5PC110 processor, and supports wireless transmission of 3G, WiFi and Bluetooth. It is based on the Android 2.1 operating system, has 8GB of storage, and comes with an SD card slot.
The 7-inch Smart Pad E201 has the same configuration as the E220, supports VoIP services, and comes with 4GB of storage space.
