The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) has released a draft of updated graphics standards intended to enable mobile devices to have the same display effect as desktop computers.
This specification builds on the W3C's work on Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG), an XML format for two-dimensional vector graphics and animation.
It is also part of the W3C's Mobile Web Initiative, a project that aims to bring a PC experience to mobile Web browsing. Mobile devices have less processing power and memory than computers, so mobile browsing is generally less effective than browsing over the Internet on a PC.
The specification, called SVG Tiny 1.2, adds new functionality to the format for use in mobile devices. It is compatible with video, audio, and scripts, as well as style-related graphics features such as gradient, stroke and fill opacity, and styled text.
