Yahoo will shut down its podcast service at the end of October

But when users visit the Yahoo Podcasts site, they see a prominent message that reads: "We are very sorry, but Yahoo Podcasts will be shutting down on October 31, 2007." Podcast services have struggled over the past few years thanks to the rise of online video. Odeo, for example, was first bought by investors, then sold, and then acquired FireAnt, another podcast site. Podshow has been short on working capital, but sources say the company will close its third round of funding this week.

Prior to Yahoo Podcasts, Yahoo had shut down several services, including Yahoo Bill Pay, Yahoo Auctions, WebJay and Yahoo Images. (Moore)
