The Loongson research group is affiliated with the Institute of Computing Technology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, mainly focusing on the development of high-performance general-purpose processors in the Loongson series. The mission of the group in developing Loongson processors is: to adhere to independent innovation, master core technologies in the information field, and serve strategic national needs through autonomous, reliable, and secure processor design; to uphold serving the people through informatization, pursue an economical path to informatization, and significantly reduce the cost of China's informatization through high-performance, low-cost, and low-power processor design.

Established in 2001, after five years of development, the Loongson research group has not only achieved significant results in processor development—successively developing the Loongson 1, Loongson 2, and enhanced Loongson 2 processors (briefly referred to as Loongson 2E), and currently working on multi-core Loongson 3—but also made great achievements in team building and cultural construction: growing from an initial team of a dozen people into a highly combat-effective team of over a hundred people, taking "responsibility, dedication, pragmatism, and perseverance" as the soul of the Loongson research group, and adopting "being a person, doing things, pursuing scholarship, loving the country, loving the party, and loving Loongson" as an important method to enhance the combat effectiveness of the Loongson research group.

To promote the industrialization of Loongson, the Loongson research group has dispatched key personnel to establish two entities: the Loongson Technology Service Center and Jiangsu Zhongke Longmen Technology Co., Ltd. The Loongson Technology Service Center is mainly dedicated to providing common Loongson technical services and consolidating the foundation for Loongson industrialization; its initial key personnel all came from the Loongson research group; the center upholds the mission and pragmatic spirit of the Loongson research group, with the philosophy of "exerting every effort, being sincere." Jiangsu Zhongke Longmen Technology Co., Ltd. was jointly established by Jiangsu Menglan Group Co., Ltd. and the Institute of Computing Technology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, with the main management and technical teams consisting of personnel dispatched by the Loongson research group; it focuses on the development and promotion of application products based on domestic Loongson processors, especially product development and large-scale industrialization that meet low-cost computing needs and national security computing requirements.
