Microsoft on Monday released IE 8 RC1, the last beta version of IE 8. Microsoft today began offering IE 8 RC1 downloads in its download center for 32-bit Vista, 64-bit Vista, and Windows XP, with the latest version available to anyone interested in trying it out. Compared to the IE 8 Beta2 released last summer, IE 8 RC1 features performance tweaks, compatibility improvements, and other minor changes.
Microsoft officials say IE 8 RC1 is a "finished platform," meaning developers and users shouldn't expect any more changes to the program or user interface.
As Microsoft recently admitted, IE 8 RC1 won't run on beta versions of Windows 7, and users who want to try it on Windows 7 will need to run it on a virtual machine.
