At the beginning of the year, Mozilla released a beta version of the Camino browser, and recently the official 1.0 version has been launched. This is undoubtedly a great choice for Mac users who have been abandoned by Microsoft. The browser is 100% open-source and runs on Mac OS X 10.2 and later versions. Due to core changes, systems below Mac OS X 10.1 can only use version 0.8.4.
It is claimed that the new Camino browser has significantly improved in several aspects:
- Can run on both PowerPC and Intel-based Macs
- A more user-friendly Tab Bar
- Download manager with pause/resume functionality
- Web content blocking
- Support for more security certificates
- Built-in Java plugin for performance improvement
- Searchable browsing history
- Support for standards like SVG, CSS2, CSS3, JavaScript 1.6, etc.
Using a Mac is still in the dreaming stage for me. I hope some friends who try out Camino will share their experiences with me :) (via witao.com)
