This set of photos shot by National Geographic magazine documents the people in Nairobi National Park, Kenya, saving the orphaned African elephants due to man-made disasters. According to statistics, the number of these African elephants has sharply decreased from 1.3 million in 1979 to only 500,000 remaining. The death of adult elephants has left the baby elephants to survive on their own. Studies have shown that the brain structure of elephants is similar to that of humans, which means baby elephants will develop post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), like orphans who have experienced disasters and war. The rescuers will take good care of them until they are weaned and help guide them to re-adapt to wild life.
