According to Theregister, Google is preparing a desktop Linux distribution and is ready to compete with Microsoft's core business - desktop software.

Currently, a desktop Linux distribution based on Debian and the Gnome desktop, called Ubuntu, is gaining popularity. In fact, the internal code name for this Linux version is "Goobuntu," where we can easily see the presence of Google in this name.

Google has also confirmed that it is working on a desktop Linux project named Goobuntu but declined to provide more details, including the objectives of the project development.

Is this Linux version merely for Google employees to use as a hobby in their spare time? Or is it just installed on office computers at Google to replace the Microsoft operating system?
