For the vast number of Android 2.1 users, today Opera, a well-known foreign browser manufacturer, has brought some exciting news: its upcoming Opera Android mobile browser will support HTML5 and Adobe Flash functionality. This news comes from Pavel Studeny, a developer at Opera, via the Opera Mobile blog. Studeny wrote that Opera Mobile already possesses all the standard browser functions, but the Android version will also support HTML5 and Adobe Flash, primarily to enhance user comfort while browsing.
The Android version of Opera Mobile 10.1 is currently still in beta, but the company made it available for download back in November. Studeny noted that new web video technologies to replace Flash may take some time to develop, as the current technology is widely supported and not easy to change quickly.
Opera Mobile will also support Flash on Android devices, providing Flash installation for users' phones. Adobe has already released Android Flash 10.1; however, only phones running the Android 2.2 platform support Flash 10.1. Meanwhile, HTML5 directly supports embedded video content on web pages, but there are no specific details about the model yet. However, according to reports, browser developers have disagreed over the supported models. Apple and Microsoft favor the H.264 codec, while Mozilla and Opera prefer the royalty-free WebM format. Opera has not yet announced the official release date for the Android version of Opera Mobile 10.1.
